  • In this undated photo made available Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009 on George Sodini's blog, http://georgesodini.com/20090804.htm, George Sodini is shown. A person close to the Allegheny County coroner's office says the gunman in the fitness center shootings was George Sodini who lived in Carnegie, Pa., just a few miles from the health club. In a Web site posted under his name, Sodini wrote rambling messages about his hatred of women and how he was tired of being rejected by them. He ended by writing, picasa

  • DETROIT - NOVEMBER 20: A pedestrian walks by graffiti on a downtown street November 20, 2008 in Detroit, Michigan. An estimated one in three Detroiters lives in poverty, making the city the poorest large city in America. The Big Three US automakers, General Motors, Ford and Chrysler, are appearing this week in Washington to ask for federal funds to curb to decline of the American auto industry. Detroit, home to the big three, would be hardest hit if the government lets the auto makers fall into bankruptcy. (Photo by Spencer Platt/Getty Images)picasa

  • Stephanie and Aiden - What a wonderful idea!! Here is a picture of Aiden and myself. I knew prenatally of Aiden's diagnosis and what a year it has been. We have gone from not knowing if he would survive birth to heart surgery 5 months later. It has now been almost a year of him teaching me what miracles truely are. We have started a public blog for family members to share their stories of what having a child with Down syndrome means to them. Please visit http://47pieces.blogspot.com and feel free to email for the id and password to add your story.picasa
  • Jennifer and Avery I'm mom to three sons - one 8 plus 4-year-old twins. Avery, a fraternal twin, was diagnosed with Down syndrome at five days old. Both my husband and I are writers, and we live in a small town in the mountains of Montana. Because I felt as if I were learning everything for the first time (I was a newborn mom all over again), and because our resources were limited, I turned to books. I read everything I could, and when I didn't find what I was looking for, I made my own: it's called Roadmap to Holland (New American Library, 2008). In it, I write about things as I learned them, in my journey as Avery's mom. I also have a blog for parents of children with Down syndrome, Pinwheels, at http://jennifergrafgroneberg.wordpress.com. When I was a new mom to Avery, I remember feeling overwhelmed, mostly, and I was sad, because I thought I'd lost the child I'd been dreaming of while I was pregnant. I didn't know, then, how much I would come to love Avery. Love makes all the difference.picasa

  • More Christmas items on the second bookshelf. If you look closely you can see the shelf with Tavern and Gurley Candles. Tavern Novelty candles were made by the Socony Vacuum Oil Company in the 1930's and 40's era. Tavern candles were made before the 1950's Gurley Novelty candles that are so popular for collectors. Also, notice the old license plate behind the angel. While the plate is decidedly non-festive, it does represent Missiouri which is where much of Chris' family lives now and where she lived before moving to Texas.picasa
