  • Carole Ann works on her painting. This art piece is based on the Goddess Ishtar. I chose to reproduce an image of the goddess that dated back to the Neo-Assyrian period, (eighth century BC). The artwork is on display in The Louvre Museum in Paris, France. The piece can be found in the museum's Near Eastern Antiquities collection. The goddess in this piece appears on a “stele” - an upright stone or slab with an inscribed or sculptured surface, used as a monument or as a commemorative tablet in the face of a building. Ishtar was the Babylonian fertility Goddess. She was the second consort of the god Anu who was her father. The legend of Ishtar tells us she went into the underworld so that she could get rid of her husband since once you traveled into the underworld, you couldn't leave unless you replace yourself with someone else. Ishtar is almost always seen sanding or on a lion and is carrying a large assortment of weapons.picasa
